AirSon Engineering Services Controlled Environment Airson TLA

Airson TLA

TLA, Temperature controlled Laminar Airflow, is one of AirSon’s platform technologies. It uses a specific way of introducing the treated air, taking advantage of gravity and creating clean controlled zones where they are needed.

Just like traditional displacement ventilation principles, TLA makes use of convection force as a driver for carrying away heat and pollutants from where they are not wanted and to displace this air with clean treated air. TLA differs from traditional displacement ventilation in the way the air is introduced into the ventilated room or to the object it protects. In absence of natural convection currents, the TLA principle is reversed and you have an equally effective means of ventilating a room or an exposed part of your process.

When using traditional hi-impulse/mixing ventilation systems, the ventilation efficiency can never reach higher than 1:1. By using AirSon’s platform technology; Temperature controlled Laminar Airflow (TLA), the ventilation efficiency can reach between 2:1 to infinity, making wonders for initial investment and long-term energy costs.

Another unique feature of the technology is its ability to create distinct zones of treated air. This has led to two major commercial offshoots within asthma treatment and the management of surgical site infections.

TLA

TLA & Energy efficiency

The TLA platform technology increases the ventilation efficiency and therefore also the energy efficiency of the technology solution. When utilized within applications with high heatloads, the technology can bring down cooling costs dramatically. Instead of cooling the entire air volume, only the air in the occupancy zone is displaced, dropping both power and energy demands.

When used to create clean zones, the application can treat and keep safe a specific area within the air volume instead of having to treat the entire volume for the same result. We are happy to help you design a solution that fits your needs.

The AirSon laboratories

TLA has been developed by AirSon, within our own air laboratories. At our headquarters in Ängelholm, AirSon Engineering has three air laboratories. In these, we can control the climate and air transfer in the rooms and carry out investigations and tests to help you develop tailormade cleanroom- and ventilation solutions for your process and operation. We can, among other things, examine the effectiveness of different air management principles, carry out temperatures studies and particle measurements and using smoke, illustrate air movement in the room.

AirSon has conducted much of its own research and development projects in the very same laboratories. We have among other things developed our unique technology platform TLA (Temperature controlled Laminar Airflow) in the laboratory and developed a number of unique applications for the technology.

We are very proud to have invented and developed the first cost-effective and non-pharmaceutical treatment of asthma (see Airsonett AB). We are also proud to have invented and developed a completely new method for managing airborne bacteria and virus contamination in hospitals (see Avidicare AB). Both applications use the TLA-technology and the AirShower.

The AirShower

TLA makes use of special ceiling-mounted air delivery devices (AirShowers) with an absolute minimal impulse, allowing gravity to play the significant role in directing the airflow. By introducing air which is slightly colder than the ambient room air, it possesses a potential energy (higher density) and “falls” downwards to the lower (colder) portions of the room. Thereafter, the undiluted supply air will move horizontally to feed the ascending convection airflows, which are evacuated at ceiling level closing the loop. In other words, TLA is able to take advantage of the natural air movement in a room, rather than working against it.
